Southern

The smaller of the standard ice axe patterns, the Southern pattern is typically found on a 22" or shorter handle and was more suited for indoor use. The bit may be rounded or squared, though it is generally 2.5" in height or less. The pick tends to be straight rather than rounded, and is angled downward dispite its straight shape.
