A Brief History of the Verona Tool Works and the Woodings-Verona Tool Works

Project type

Date

Dec 2022

The axe manufacturing industry began a steady decline after WWII, and the 1960s saw the end of the “Golden Age” of the American Axe. However, the Woodings-Verona Tool Works started their life as a railroad tool producing company in 1873 and had no standard axes on the market during the “Golden Age”. Despite this fact, starting in the 1980s, Woodings-Verona Axes were a common tool found in chain hardware stores across the country. This second installment to the "Exploring Axe History" "A Brief History" series explores the beginnings of the company, the events that led up to their production of axes, and what became of the company and their tools.
