Findlay Axe and Tool Company
Findlay, Ohio
The Findlay Axe and Tool Company was initially organized in January of 1896 in Findlay, Ohio. Though it would eventually encompass two separate locations in that town, the original factory was located along railroad, just north of the Blanchard river, on Briggs Street (now Clinton) , near North Blanchard Street (near the location of current water treatment plant). As the company grew, it changed ownership through investors, and eventually saw the need for a second location. This new factory, run along with the original, was located toward the north end of town, and was built in a building once utilized by the Salem Wire and Nail Company. Also located along the railroad line servicing the city, it was just east of the tracks on Santee Avenue, near the present day intersection of East Melrose Avenue and Massillon Street. The company closed in 1909 due to bankruptcy resulting from poor management and falsified expansion of stock.
