Cedar

Cedar Pattern

A natural progression from the original, single bit, Cedar axe of Kerrville, Texas, the double version of the Cedar pattern is perfect for the closed in, scrubby Cedar lands of the southwest. The angled toes and heels allow for a hand to be slid up the haft to behind the bit, much like a carving axe. The traditional size of the Cedar is a 2.5 pound head, though later manufacturers offered a 3 pound size occasionally. Due to its historical size and shape, it was often marketed along side the "Cruiser" axe. Cruiser typically denotes size, however, and there is no need to call a Cedar a Cruiser, as the size is implied by the historical dimensions of the axe. You'll find no listings for "Cedar Cruisers" in manufacturer catalogs.
